9th Church History

Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, South Fort Worth Baptist Fellowship (SFWBF) was organized on February 18, 2008 in the home of Rev. Joseph L. Williams II and Adrian Williams by a group of faithful servants devoted to God’s call.

Many weekly prayer meetings in the homes of various members of this infant fellowship led to this important step. After careful study of the needs of the South Fort Worth, Crowley, Burleson and surrounding areas, the group voted unanimously to plant a church in that area, and Reverend Joseph L. Williams II was called to be Senior Pastor and official organizer of the church.

SFWBF held its first Worship Services on April 3, 2008 at Sidney H. Poynter Elementary School, where First Lady Williams was employed as a teacher at that time. On October 20, 2009, we were accepted into to the Southwest Metroplex Baptist Association. Subsequently, with the Lord’s Blessings, we purchased approximately four acres of land. Not long thereafter, on February 17, 2013, we broke ground for the construction of our new church facility and the completion of phase one of our long term vision of service to God.

We celebrated this trail-blazing achievement worshipping and praising God through a number of events, including our 1st Hope Fest Festival on March 21, 2014, the 1st Family and Friends Day Celebration on March 22, 2014, the Entrance Celebration on March 30, 2014, and the 1st Annual Musical on April 5, 2014. With God’s help, each event served as additional opportunities to reach surrounding south Fort Worth communities with the love of God and Gospel of Jesus Christ.

During eight years of corporate service, we’ve baptized 24 new converts and lost 6 members to God’s call to eternal rest, including two deacons, Brothers W.C. McGee and Hurk Bell. Furthermore, we’ve witnessed God’s call of some among us to other fields of service, the formation of new unions through marriage, and both numerical and spiritual growth among us. More recently, the Lord added two associate ministers, Jack Overstreet and Derrick Washington, to our church staff.

What a great blessing we received as the Lord has added to the Church in various ways! Hallelujah! Praise God!! We now look with inspiring hope to greater works than these, as we continue to devote ourselves to the Lord’s Great Commission work, “Making Disciples through Faithful Service” and encouraging “All to God’s Call to Faithfulness” in 2017.

To God Be the Glory – AMEN
